1 CONT Mrs Bulmer, wife of Captain Bulmer, and only daughter of the late Hon. 
1 CONC George Thornton, whose death was recently recorded, died somewhat 
1 CONC suddenly at her residence, Lang Syne, Parramatta, on Boxing Day. Only 
1 CONC this week Captain Bulmer and his family left Ryde to come to 
1 CONC Parramatta to take up their abode in the residence of the late Hon. 
1 CONC George Thornton. Previous to removing here Mrs. Bulmer had consulted 
1 CONC Dr. Gordon-Smith for some apparently trifling illness, but on 
1 CONC Christmas Day Dr. Gordon- Smith was summoned to Parramatta, when he 
1 CONC found Mrs. Bulmer's condition to to serious com- plications fallowing 
1 CONC on an attack of influenza having developed. In spite of all that could 
1 CONC he done, Mrs. Bulmer gradually sank, and died on Thursday. It is 
1 CONC stated that the deceased lady never fully recovered from the shock 
1 CONC occasioned by the death of her eldest son, Mr. George Bulmer, B.A., 
1 CONC barrister-at-law, who some years ago was
1 CONT killed in the railway accident at Eveleigh. The funeral took place 
1 CONC yesterday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the family 
1 CONC vault at Rook- wood Cemetery, the Rev. H. H. Britten officiating at 
1 CONC the graveside.

1 CONT Lieutenant George Edward Bulmer, whose por trait appears on this page, 
1 CONC has just received an appointment as lieutenant on probation for six 
1 CONC months in the New South Wales Regiment of I Artillery, and if military 
1 CONC qualifications go for anything, the right man has been selected.
1 CONT Lieutenant Bulmer was born in 1870 at New Cross, near London, and is 
1 CONC the son of Captain G. E. Bulmer, late commander and part owner ship 
1 CONC Alumbagh, and a grandson of the Hon. George Thornton, M.L.C. He was 
1 CONC educated at Rugby, and afterwards by tutors for classics, language, 
1 CONC and other accomplishments. Since 1888 Lieu tenant Bulmer has been 
1 CONC through a strict conree of military education and training at 
1 CONC Devonport and Woolwich, and while there he successfully passed every 
1 CONC examination and test for efficiency as required by the authorities to 
1 CONC qualify him for the rank of lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. In 
1 CONC March this year he passed another severe examination and was appointed 
1 CONC artillery instructor. It is said that Major-General Hutton, New South 
1 CONC Wales Commandant, would not accept Lieutenant Bulmer's recommendations 
1 CONC until he had inquired of the Commander-in-Chief in Eng land as to his 
1 CONC efficiency, &c. The replies in every regard and detail were most 
1 CONC satisfactory, hence the GOVERNMENT GAZETTE notice. Captain G. E. 
1 CONC Bulmer and family are leaving England for Sydney shortly, to 
1 CONC permanently take up their

1 CONT At the Sydney City Coroners Court on Thursday an enquiry was made 
1 CONC regarding the death of George Edward Bulmer (45),
1 CONT formerly of Chesterfield-avenue, Waverley. He was killed by being run 
1 CONC over by a motor fire engine in Old South Head-road, on July,
1 CONT 8. The evidence was that a tram driver
1 CONT stopped his car between the usual stopping
1 CONT places to make way for the fire engine. Some of the passengers 
1 CONC alighted, including deceased, who stepped almost under the fire 
1 CONC engine. Accidental death was the find- ing of the court.
